Wellness Care
Annual Exams

Prevention is the key to your pet's health and quality of life. Annual wellness examinations are the cornerstone of your pet's preventive health care plan. Exams help us establish a baseline level of your pet's health. We perform a "nose to tail" evaluation of your pet. During each exam, we conduct the following procedures:
- Listen to the heart and lungs
- Test your pet's hearing and vision
- Palpate the abdomen
- Check muscles and joints for signs of arthritis
- Examine the skin for signs of growths, tumors and skin conditions
During your pet's exam, we will ask questions about your pet's diet, lifestyle and overall health. All of this information is used to develop a health care plan for your pet and spot diseases and conditions before they become more difficult to treat.
Vaccinations

Keeping your pet vaccinated is essential to his or her health. Vaccinations prevent your pet from contracting common veterinary diseases, many of which can be fatal if left untreated. We understand that all pets are unique. That's why we vaccinate based on your pet's lifestyle, risk factors and other criteria. Our veterinarians work with you to develop a vaccination protocol that's specific to your pet.
Parasite Control
Keeping your pet free from fleas, ticks and other parasites is a must! Parasites cause your pet pain and discomfort; beyond that, some parasites, such as fleas, ticks and hookworms, can affect your family as well. Controling and preventing parasites is an important part of your pet's health care plan. Kings Veterinary Hospital offers the latest in parasite prevention and control medications. We develop a treatment protocol based on your pet's lifestyle and overall health.
Heartworm Prevention
Heartworm infection can affect both dogs and cats. Left untreated, heartworms can damage your pet's heart and lungs and, in serious cases, result in death. Heartworms are transmitted by infected mosquitoes. We perform a variety of tests designed to detect the presence of internal parasites, including heartworms, roundworms and hookworms.
Senior Pet Care

Your pet's health care needs change as he or she ages. Pets age faster than people and your pet reaches his or her "senior years" by the age of 7 (in the case of some breeds). When it comes to older pets, prevention and early detection of problems are the keys to successful management. Often, symptoms of disease or chronic conditions may be misinterpreted as signs of "old age". Regular wellness exams (at least once a year, though more frequent exams are encouraged), routine blood tests and diagnostic procedures can keep your senior pet healthy for years to come.
You are your older pet's most important ally when it comes to health care. As your pet ages, he or she may develop diseases such as diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure and other chronic conditions. Watch for changes in your pet's health and behavior. If you notice any sudden changes, we urge you to schedule an appointment with us as soon as possible. Together, we can develop a health care plan that best fits the needs of your older pet. We understand the life-long bond you share with your faithful companion, and it is our goal to strengthen and preserve that bond.
Behavior Counseling
You've welcomed a new puppy or kitten into your home - congratulations! Teaching your new companion the rules of the house can be challenging, though. You and your pet can both benefit from the specialty kitten/puppy behavioral counseling and coaching sessions at Kings Veterinary Hospital.
